Two people where walking down this narrow and dark path.
The one on the left said to himself… If I fall, I may hurt myself or even die.
The one on the right said to himself… If the man walking next to me falls, he may drag me down with him. I may get hurt or even die.
While they walk, a woman appears from the opposite direction, holding two really small bags. One black and one white.
When she came really close, the two men stopped. The woman shows them the bags and asks the man on the left to pick the bag of his choice. He choose the white one.
The man on the right got the black one. Before the two people continued their journey, the woman says;
-You may open the bags, only if you believe that your heart is pure… And then she left.
The two men kept on going for many hours… And many days… And many months… And many years.
So after a long journey, they finally reached the end of the narrow and dark path they were walking all this time.
At the end of the path there was a clearing with a small well on the side. They both sat on the edge of the well.
The man on the right asked the man on the left;
-All this time that we are walking, did you open your bag?
-All this time that we are walking I was thinking about my life and all the people I disappointed. I begged God for forgiveness and cried knowing that I never took the chance to say “Thank you” to the ones that helped me… I never took the chance to smile back to the ones that smiled at me… I never took the chance to give back the love that was given to me… So no; I didn’t open my bag and I will die without knowing what’s inside. Did you open yours?
-I opened my black bag as soon as the woman left. All my life I craved for other people’s respect and honesty. I lusted for their love. I envied their happiness. I hurt others on every chance I had… What I found inside, was ashes.
The two men laid on each others backs and closed their eyes.
